Dear Club member,
An Invitation To Join The Fun!
We are looking to recruit teams of all abilities into an exciting revolutionary brand new 20Twenty Evening Cricket League in the Leeds/Harrogate/York area.
The League will commence in May 2008.
All teams will be required to participate in coloured clothing with the following broad outline of playing conditions;
- A White Cricket Ball must be used.
- Black Sightscreens (where appropriate).
- Power Plays with inner circle fielding restrictions.
- Bowlers restricted to 5 overs.
- Free Hits for front-foot no-balls**
- Leg side wides**
** - to be voted on at League Inaugural Meeting.
- Opening Batsman cannot open the bowling and vice versa (this is to encourage greater participation within the team and also makes the captain think!)
- Weather affected matches to be decided by Duckworth-Lewis (or similar) method.
The League has been discussed with and is being launched with the knowledge and advice of The Yorkshire Cricket Association , all member clubs must be affiliated to the YCA.
Over 100 local area clubs have been approached, ensuring cricketers will be visiting many other grounds for the first time.
A League website is currently under construction and will carry a multitude of stats. For example, a match result can be filled in on-line, the match details are then fed into the main Database to compile current league tables along with tables for current individual batting and bowling analysis (averages and cumulative for player, club, division and league),individual records, highest partnerships, 'player of the week', '6s league' etc.
Each player will be assigned a unique player code for 'The Superleague' where points are awarded for runs scored, wickets taken, catches, run-outs etc. Again tables will be automated to show all player rankings within their own club, division and the entire league.
All players will also have their own page on the web site. Personal Bests and Current Averages are displayed here along with a blog area and club details etc.
A 'Grand Finals Day' with four semi-finalists from our cup competition is also planned
I believe that this league has been well overdue and I look forward to your initial thoughts and comments by return. |

I think this is a great idea and long overdue but with a couple of reservations.
What night of the week will it be?
What happens to the Harrogate and District Evening League?
If it runs in addition to the HDEL will clubs manage to get 2 sides out midweek?
Some weeks in the season there seems to be no nights free for anything else what with cup games and evening league games.
If a proposal to change the atkinson swiers cup comes at the AGM and it gets approved do we need two Twenty/20 type comps?
Travelling.....on a night.....might be tricky unless there is some kind of regionalisation of the early rounds.
But in general I would support it. |
